Privacy Statement
The Journal of Digital Health and Advanced Biomaterials — JDHAB processes personal data only for defined scholarly publishing purposes and is committed to privacy, confidentiality, security, transparency, and respect for data-subject rights under applicable data-protection law, including the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD) where applicable.
This Privacy Statement explains how JDHAB collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects personal data through its website, user accounts, manuscript-submission system, peer-review workflow, editorial communications, publication services, indexing, and digital preservation activities.
Personal data are not sold, rented, or used for unrelated commercial marketing. Processing is limited to journal operations, scholarly communication, publication integrity, security, and applicable legal or ethical obligations.

This statement applies to personal data processed through the JDHAB website and editorial platform and to data received through journal-related email, submission, review, editing, production, publication, indexing, and archiving activities.
Privacy Responsibility
For processing carried out directly through its journal operations, JDHAB determines the relevant editorial purposes and practices and serves as the contact point for privacy questions and data-subject requests.
Personal Data We May Process
Account and Profile Data
These data may include name, username, email address, affiliation, country, professional role, ORCID iD, biography, areas of expertise, reviewing interests, and other information voluntarily added to a user profile.
Submission and Editorial Data
These data may include author and contributor details, manuscripts and supplementary files, declarations, reviewer reports, editorial decisions, revision histories, correspondence, assigned roles, and workflow activity records.
Technical and Usage Data
The platform or its hosting environment may process IP addresses, login and activity timestamps, browser or device information, session identifiers, cookies, and server or security logs required for operation, authentication, troubleshooting, and protection of the service.
Sensitive or Unnecessary Data
Users should not submit sensitive or identifying personal data unless they are necessary, ethically approved, lawfully processed, and permitted by the journal. Authors are responsible for removing direct identifiers from research materials and clinical content unless valid consent and a legitimate publication need apply.

Editorial and Publishing Purposes
JDHAB may process personal data to create and administer accounts; receive and evaluate submissions; identify and invite reviewers; conduct peer review; communicate with authors, reviewers, and editors; edit and publish accepted work; register DOIs; disseminate metadata; preserve the scholarly record; prevent misuse; investigate publication-integrity concerns; and maintain operational, security, and audit records.
Applicable Legal Bases
Depending on the activity and applicable law, processing may rely on consent; procedures requested by the data subject; performance of journal-related agreements; compliance with legal or regulatory obligations; legitimate interests pursued with appropriate safeguards; protection of rights in legal, administrative, or other proceedings; or another lawful basis permitted by data-protection law.
Editorial Communications
Operational messages concerning accounts, submissions, reviews, decisions, corrections, or publication are part of the journal service. Optional announcements or notifications may be managed through the available account preferences or by contacting the journal.
Confidential and Public Information
Confidential Editorial Information
Unpublished manuscripts, blinded identities, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, conflict-of-interest information, and other non-public workflow records are available only to authorized persons who require access for legitimate journal functions. Confidential materials must not be disclosed to unauthorized services or artificial intelligence systems.
Published Scholarly Record
For published content, author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, article titles, abstracts, keywords, references, funding and competing-interest statements, contributor information, and other publication metadata may become permanently public and may be distributed to DOI agencies, repositories, libraries, preservation services, search engines, and indexing databases.
Sharing and International Processing
Authorized Recipients and Service Providers
Personal data may be made available, only as necessary, to assigned editors, reviewers, editorial staff, technical administrators, and providers supporting hosting, email, DOI registration, indexing, plagiarism or integrity checks, analytics where enabled, and digital preservation. These recipients are expected to process data for defined purposes and under appropriate confidentiality and security obligations.
International Processing and Disclosure
Some publishing, indexing, infrastructure, and preservation services may operate outside Brazil. Where personal data are transferred internationally, JDHAB will seek to use lawful mechanisms and appropriate safeguards. Data may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary for security, protection of rights, or a fair publication-integrity investigation.

Data are retained only for periods reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, account administration, editorial traceability, security, dispute resolution, legal or ethical compliance, and preservation of the scholarly record. Retention periods may vary according to the type of record and its role in publication integrity.
Scholarly-Record Limitations
Published articles, public metadata, citation records, and essential editorial audit trails may require long-term or permanent retention. A deletion or anonymization request will therefore be assessed individually and may be limited where retention is necessary to protect publication integrity, comply with law, establish or defend rights, or preserve an accurate scholarly record.
Data-Subject Rights
Rights Under Applicable Law
Subject to applicable law and lawful limitations, individuals may request confirmation of processing; access to and correction of personal data; information about data sharing; anonymization, blocking, or deletion of unnecessary, excessive, or unlawfully processed data; portability where regulated; deletion of data processed on the basis of consent where applicable; withdrawal of consent; and opposition to processing in the circumstances provided by law. Individuals may also submit a petition to the competent data-protection authority when legally available.
Requests and Identity Verification
JDHAB may request reasonable information to verify the identity and authority of the person making a request. Requests will be evaluated and answered within the periods required by applicable law. If a request cannot be fulfilled in whole or in part, the journal will provide an appropriate explanation where legally permitted.
Human Editorial Decisions
JDHAB does not base acceptance, revision, or rejection decisions solely on automated processing. Editorial responsibility remains with qualified human editors.
Security and Incident Response
Security Measures
JDHAB seeks to maintain administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data and the risks involved, including role-based access, account protection, system maintenance, and secure operational practices. No online system can guarantee absolute security.
Incident Response
Suspected personal-data incidents will be assessed, documented, contained, and addressed according to their nature and risk. The competent authority and affected individuals will be notified when required by applicable law.
Children, Updates, and Contact
Children and Adolescent Data
The journal platform is intended for scholarly and professional use and is not directed to children. Research involving children or adolescents must follow applicable ethical and legal requirements, use appropriate consent or authorization, and protect participant identity and best interests.
