Article Types & Limits
JDHAB accepts four public manuscript categories designed to support rigorous original research, critical evidence synthesis, methodological innovation, validation, reproducible scientific workflows, and clinically relevant case documentation within digital health and advanced biomaterials.
Authors must select the manuscript category that most accurately reflects the scientific design, purpose, evidence level, and reporting structure of the submission.
Each public article type has a dedicated official manuscript template. The limits below represent maximum technical allowances unless an exception has been approved in writing by the editorial office before submission.

General Notes
Word Count
Word counts refer to the main manuscript text and exclude the title page, abstract, keywords, references, tables, figure legends, acknowledgments, required declarations, and supplementary material.
Abstract Structure
Authors must use the abstract headings provided in the official template for the selected article type. The required headings may vary according to the study design or review subtype; headings must not be replaced with a generic structure.
Display Items
Display items include the combined number of tables and figures appearing in the main manuscript. Additional material should be submitted as supplementary content when scientifically justified.
Maximum Limits and Exceptions
The limits are maximum allowances rather than expected targets. Manuscripts should remain as concise as the scientific question and reporting requirements permit.
A request to exceed a limit must be scientifically justified and approved in writing by the editorial office before submission. Approval of an exception does not guarantee editorial consideration, peer review, or acceptance.
Article Categories
Original Research
Reports of original clinical, laboratory, observational, experimental, computational, diagnostic, or translational investigations within the journal’s scope.
Manuscripts must present a clearly defined research question, an appropriate study design, transparent and reproducible methods, valid analysis, complete numerical results, appropriate measures of uncertainty, limitations, and conclusions supported by the evidence.
The study design must be identified clearly, and the applicable reporting guideline and registration requirements must be followed.
Review Article
Systematic, scoping, narrative, critical, integrative, or other evidence-synthesis articles addressing an established or emerging question relevant to digital health, advanced biomaterials, or translational scientific practice.
The review subtype must be identified in the title or abstract. Information sources, search or identification methods, eligibility or selection approach, appraisal methods when applicable, synthesis procedures, and limitations must be described transparently.
Systematic and scoping reviews must follow the applicable reporting guideline and include the required checklist and flow diagram. Review registration or protocol information must be reported when applicable.
Methods and Validation
Articles describing methodological developments, validation studies, technical notes, software or digital workflow reports, reproducibility protocols, calibration procedures, analytical methods, or auditable clinical and laboratory processes.
Authors must define the intended use, technical setting, materials or data sources, workflow, performance criteria, validation strategy, quality-control procedures, failures, limitations, and conditions under which the method may be applied.
Reports involving software, algorithms, or digital workflows must provide sufficient technical and availability information for critical appraisal and, when applicable, independent reproduction.
Case Report / Case Series
Reports of individual cases or small case series that provide a relevant clinical, diagnostic, technical, safety, or translational lesson within the journal’s scope.
Submissions must include appropriate clinical documentation, chronological reporting, diagnostic and management reasoning, meaningful follow-up, limitations, patient-perspective information when available, and compliance with the CARE reporting guideline.
Written consent for publication is required whenever an individual may be identified directly or indirectly. The manuscript must state the consent status and any ethics-review requirement applicable to the case.
Editorial Content
Editorials
Editorials are normally invited or commissioned contributions addressing journal priorities, scientific developments, publication ethics, policy matters, or institutional perspectives.
Editorials are handled through the journal’s internal editorial workflow and do not constitute a standard public submission category. No public manuscript template is provided. Length, structure, authorship, disclosures, and review requirements are determined by the editorial office.

Reference and Formatting Standard
All manuscripts must follow Vancouver style according to the ICMJE Recommendations and the National Library of Medicine’s Citing Medicine. Journal-title abbreviations must conform to the NLM Catalog or MEDLINE abbreviation system.
Authors must prepare the manuscript using the official template corresponding to the selected article type and remove all instructional text and unused placeholders before submission.
